Position Overview:
The Director of Product Marketing plays a pivotal role in driving the strategic growth of our portfolio companies by refining their go-to-market strategies, enhancing product positioning, and ensuring that their sales and marketing efforts are aligned with market opportunities. As an individual contributor, you will leverage your expertise in product marketing to support and strengthen our portfolio companies, helping them achieve sustainable growth and establish a competitive market presence. You will be responsible for leading product marketing initiatives, providing actionable insights through data analysis and market research, and mentoring portfolio company teams to foster innovation and customer-centric strategies. Additionally, you will play a critical role in evaluating potential acquisitions and ensuring the smooth integration of new businesses into the portfolio
Key Responsibilities:
Product Positioning and Market Strategy
- Partner with portfolio company sales and marketing teams to develop and refine product positioning and messaging frameworks that resonate with target customer segments and differentiate products in the market.
- Define value propositions that align with market needs and internal capabilities to drive product awareness, adoption, and competitive advantage.
- Identify unique selling points and assist in creating compelling narratives that articulate product benefits and market fit.
Go-to-Market Planning and Execution
- Lead the development and implementation of go-to-market strategies for new product launches, feature updates, and market expansions, in collaboration with portfolio company teams.
- Ensure alignment on product launch plans, marketing campaigns, and promotional activities.
- Establish key performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of go-to-market initiatives and adjust strategies based on performance feedback.
Market Research and Competitive Analysis
- Conduct in-depth market research to better understand customer needs, industry trends, and the competitive landscape.
- Use insights to inform product development, positioning, and overall marketing strategies.
- Identify market gaps and opportunities to drive further product innovation and guide strategic decision-making.
Data Analysis and Performance Optimization
- Analyze internal performance data, including sales, profitability, and customer segmentation, to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
- Provide recommendations to portfolio sales and marketing teams based on data insights to optimize product offerings, improve customer satisfaction, and maximize revenue potential.
- Combine internal and external data to provide a comprehensive view of business performance and market alignment.
Acquisition Evaluation, Due Diligence and Integration Support
- Conduct sales and marketing due diligence to assess internal operations and external market position of acquisition targets.
- Validate market opportunities, identify strategic fit, and provide risk assessments and recommendations.
- Support onboarding and integration, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and successful adoption of new processes and systems.
Mentorship and Team Development:
- Mentor sales and marketing teams within the portfolio companies, promoting best practices, data-driven decisions, and innovation.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, adaptability, and proactive problem-solving.
- Work with leadership to identify training needs, ensuring portfolio company teams are prepared for evolving business demands.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in senior product management, marketing or business development role ideally within the agriculture industry or similar sectors such as supply chain or industrial retail.
- Proven track record of driving successful product marketing initiatives and enhancing marketing functions within a corporate or portfolio environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data sets into actionable insights.
- Demonstrated expertise in conducting comprehensive market research, analyzing external trends, and translating findings into strategic recommendations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with and teams.
- Experience in private equity or portfolio management is advantageous but not required.
